Professional Profile

Joe Jobe served as the  CEO for the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) for nearly two decades. The NBB is the single, national, comprehensive trade association for the biodiesel industry in North America.  NBB expanded its membership in 2013 to include Renewable Diesel companies to represent the entire biomass-based diesel category of the Renewable Fuel Standard.  Joe has been with NBB since 1997, and has been CEO since January 1999. He has helped lead the industry to grow from approximately 200,000 gallons 1999 to almost 2 billion gallons in 2013 from 200 plants nationwide.  In 1999, NBB was a struggling research and development organization with 14 members,  a budget of less than a million dollars, and a highly uncertain future.  Under Joe's leadership, NBB became a world class, comprehensive trade association with two offices, over 200 members, and an annual budget of $15 million.  NBB was at the apex of nearly every federal and state biofuel policy in the last two decades.  Joe frequently testifies before Congress and state assemblies.  Under his leadership the biodiesel industry grew from an experimental fuel with almost no sales, to the first fully commercialized, EPA-designated, Advanced Biofuel that now makes up over 5% of the nation's diesel fuel supply.

Joe is a recognized leader, author, and international speaker on renewable energy, having given keynote speeches in 10 countries.  He has published articles or been interviewed in many national publications including TIME, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Washington Post.  And he has appeared on national broadcasts including the Today Show, History Channel, Discovery Channel, PBS, CSPAN, Fox News, CNN, Sirius XM radio, and Jay Leno’s Garage.

Prior to coming to the National Biodiesel Board, Joe was a fraud investigator for the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.  Joe holds professional certifications as a certified public accountant, and a certified association executive.  Joe lives in Jefferson City with his wife Lisa and two teenage children, Delaney and Levi.
